About us and how to use SHARE
Caring More, Wasting Less

SHARE Wokingham is a locally founded food sharing charity (registered number 1195620) with 15 sites in Wokingham and surrounding areas.
Each week SHARE helps over 2000 people in our local community who need support foodwise by redistributing an incredible 40 tonnes of food from local supermarkets and food suppliers that would otherwise go to waste.
No referral is required and the food is free. Our food sharing is for anyone who feels they could do with some help – even if just temporarily. Everyone is welcome. No questions are asked. You will just find friendly faces and plenty of fresh produce.

Find a SHARE site local to you – a list of our sites and opening times can be found here.
When you arrive you will be greeted by one of our friendly volunteers who will ask simply for a first name and your postcode so that we have an idea of who is using our service and from where. Ideally please bring a bag, and we do ask everyone for a £1 pay-it-forward donation, which often goes to another charity, sometimes towards our running costs. You will then be shown into our food hall, where fresh food and produce is laid out rather like in a market and you are invited to take what you need – free of charge. We do ask everyone to limit themselves to one basket, so we can be sure everyone gets a fair share. If you feel you need more – or simply just want to help stop food waste – please come back at the end of the session and you can help yourself to whatever we have left.
Our donors include many local supermarkets including Marks & Spencers, Lidl, Tesco and Waitrose and food suppliers such as Brakes, Cooks, Gails and Squires. All these food businesses often have surplus stock which they would prefer to be used rather than thrown away. By teaming up with them we can help reduce food waste and share it out to those who need some extra help food wise.
The fresh produce we have available to share varies week by week depending on what is surplus to requirements, but almost always includes plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, bakery and dairy products.
Absolutely none of what the project has achieved would have been possible without the effort of all the volunteers, trustees, Brakes, Morrisons, Waitrose, Lidl, ALDI, Gail’s, Cook!, M&S, Squires, Greggs. So a huge thank you to all involved.
What started off as a small local ‘Grub Club’ in Norreys Church in Wokingham during Covid19 in 2020 has now become one of the biggest and most successful locally founded food charity initiatives. With the opening of our latest 15th site in Bracknell we are now able to help around 2000 people every week. Our philosophy is very much about Caring More and Wasting Less.
Over 150 local volunteers work every day of the week to sort/collect/redistribute and run the community sites. A massive 40-plus tonnes of surplus food which would otherwise go to waste is redistributed every month by SHARE. Nothing is wasted – any food unused or not fit for human consumption is donated as animal feed to local farms such as Poppies Farm in Hurst.
